Home Away From Home

Landscape Weaving

This weaving was inspired by the song Letters From Home sung by John Michael Montgomery. One of my very closest friends, Ben, graduated High School and went straight into the Army. We spent months writing to each other while he was in Basic Training, and continued to keep in contact throughout him moving to different states for base, as well as his 9 month tour in Afghanistan from October of 2016-July of 2017. As an Army Combat Veteran, he fought and was blown up in the Sangin District Centre in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. He received a Purple Heart Award.

Jagged Thoughts

Bound Weave

Jagged Thoughts is a Bound Weave, 4 patterns given to us in class to follow, using treadles 3-6, and up to four colors at a time. This piece was to help guide the class in making imagery in our work, using the same treadles, and as many different colors as we would like. Because my brain works a little differently, I was not able to articulate how to make images exactly, so I wrote down different numbered patterns and correlated my colors with them, and stared to weave those from the bottom up. You can see toward the top is where I let a little loose and was able to actually make patterns from my own intuition instead of writing them down. I see this piece as a progression of my thoughts and how they started to come together as I wrapped this up to finalize,

The Battle Between Me, Myself, and I

Brocade

I believe that the title of this is self explanatory. The whole entirety of the school year 2022-2023 had been an absolute disaster for me. Between my parents divorce, a breakup, inner uncomfortably, and then some, I wanted to create a peace that was going to portray this. The loose straighter ends show that there is a way out, Everything will work out in time, and my troubles will eventually get untangled- I just have to be patient.
